Jaw joint disorders have not been given enough emphasis until now and both patients and physicians failed to pay attention to is sufficiently.  However, 10-15% of the society is having problems related to the jaw joint.  While treatments are planned to protect the joint in the initial stages, surgery may be inevitable in case of advanced stage jaw joint disorders.  As we call temporomandibular joint dysfunction, although these disorders are particularly observed especially in women and at young ages, they can be encountered in both genders and at any age.  While it is possible to provide treatment with resting, medication, night guards in the early stages; intra-articular wash and hyaluronic acid injections, and surgery are applied in the last stage in more advanced cases.

Jaw Ankylosis is another very important jaw joint disorder.  It is the ossification of the joint and the inability to open the jaw, usually after fractures which involve the jaw joint.  The use of jaw prostheses in the treatment of jaw joint ankylosis was first applied by me in Turkey, and then I had many applications in advanced cases of the disorder and on patients.  Unfortunately, no other choice but to use a jaw joint prosthesis is left after a certain stage.  Therefore, it is very important to make the right choice for the patient in these irreversible cases.
